Welcome 2025! I have big plans for you, but no pressure. Really.

Let’s talk about my novel…

Last year (like, two days ago) I took a well deserved 20-day vacation. It was my first full-on vacation since my college years — when you work as a freelance creative you hardly ever manage to have a real vacation since you are always trying to make your next project real. This was the first time in many years I actually got to enjoy my time with my family without the need to work on some ongoing project. It felt great to just let go of everything and be present.

However, back to the real world and back to my regular 8-to-4 job I now have a whole year ahead of projects I do want to make real. I don’t expect all of them to either find a home or be ready by the end of the year — I’m only human, and so are my friends and colleagues working on them with me. But I do want to see them moving as forward as life and our mental health allows.

To start the newsletter year I want to talk about my solo project.

I’m writing a Tapas Novel! I know they have had stronger days, but truth be told I’m only now finding in me the strength to actually release something I wrote out in the wild. The editing is done by myself with my partners’ help, but I’m mostly just focused in releasing as-is into the world and after it’s finish I can do another full edit to maybe publish it traditionally or independently.

Prose is not my weapon of choice when it comes to writing, I’m a screenwriter by trade, so this is really a gamble on how it ill go down. I’m also keeping my non-native writer quirks on, I don’t want to sound like a native English writer, I want to sound as myself. I know this might hinder my chances of engaging readers, but that’s just part of the gamble. Since I’m currently living in Canada I’m writing in English and that’s the deal.

The novel is a decolonial take on the isekai stories we read so much in web novels, manhwas and mangas. I myself am an avid reader of such manhwas and mangas, and I have a deep appreciation for them as they helped me get through some of the worst moments of my depression. So do not see this as I’m taking a swing at the genre, I’m simply trying a different approach to them. I’m also not the first one to do so, it’s just something I wanted to try.

A little sneak peak at the novel:

My Prince Doesn’t Want to Be King!
After dying in an accident caused by her boss, Anne is transmigrated into the body of Alana, a five-year-old witch living inside the universe of a book Anne read on her past life: My Prince will be a Fair King! The problem? She’s not into the monarchy and her character is supposed to die at the tender age of 16, accused of murdering the first prince of the Empire! Can she keep her anti-monarchy tendencies at bay and survive? Or will her fate be unequivocally intertwine with the prince and change the course of the story?

I have a few episodes done and ready to publish, but I’m still working on a schedule that will work for me and that I won’t have to take long breaks because I don’t have enough ready. My plan now is to write less than 100 episodes and split them into seasons. This format is all new to me, so I’m still seeing how they will work on my writing style. I had all the page already set up over on Tapas, but something happened and I’ll have to work on that again, so no link to subscribe yet. But soon, I hope!

Anyway… This is one of the big plans I have for 2025, hopefully I’ll manage to keep it going without any problems. I’ll keep you guys updated and talk more about the process of writing it.

Thank you for staying with me through 2024, and I’ll see you more often in 2025!

I hope you guys have a great new year!

See you soon!
