My name is Rebeca Puig. I’m a queer and Latina writer, born and raised in Brazil and currently living in Vancouver – Canada. I started my writer journey back in 2013 as a screenwriter, worked years as a pop culture critic, and as a public speaker and community organizer on diversity and representation.

My first picture book, Horror Stories for Weird Children (2019) was a small collection of monster stories with different twists. It was amazingly illustrated by Rebeca Prado and we are currently re-working one of the stories to try our luck in the north-American publishing front of things.
The things I write are often fun, other-worldly heartwarming, but also a little heartbreaking. I’m really into the slightly spooky and weird stuff. I’m a science fiction writer with a tendency to fantasy. Diversity and inclusion are core principles in my life that I make sure to bring into my writing work.
The things I draw are whatever crosses my mind at the moment. I’m not a professional illustrator, so I just do whatever I’m in the mood for. Although I have my art up for sale in some websites, and had a store in the past, I see it as a hobby. 🙂
I’ve been a blogger for most of my adult life, and although I do venture through video content, I feel much more at home writing my thoughts and ideas. I created Beca Zine as a place where I’ll not only share my creative work process (and progress!), but also as a place where I can “talk” about my views in art as a political mechanism for change. Yes, I have political opinions — w i l d, I know.

So far so good. Now, let’s get to some about me topic game:
- I’m a big cozy gamer, which means I have about 30 farms in Stardew Valley. But I also have 300 saves between Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West and Tomb Raider. I like my ladies with a bow & an arrow.
- I’m what I call a late-bloomer-queer and I might talk more about this in the future.
- I’m an intersectional feminist and it shows.
- I have two lovely chaotic cats (Leslie and Peggy) and a lovely chaotic dog (Peralta).
- English is not my native language and I don’t care. I talked more about this in the article When I Stopped Using Grammarly.
A.I. is a fraud, it will not save humanity.
